Chandpur

Chandpur is a river district of Chattogram Division, famous for hilsa fisheries, confluence landscapes, and active trade along the Meghna-Padma system. It covers 1,704.06 km² and had a population of 2,635,748 in the 2022 census. Chandpur town is the district headquarters and a busy river-port city.

Chandpur developed as a river-port and trading subdivision under colonial rule and became a district on 15 February 1984. It has long been associated with transport, fishing, and agricultural exchange in the lower Meghna region.

Location: Lower Meghna-Padma river confluence zone in southeastern Bangladesh. River channels, char lands, and fertile alluvium dominate the district.

Population (2022): 2,635,748. Literacy rate (7+) was 78.23%, about 26.23% of the population lived in urban areas, and Muslims formed a strong majority with a Hindu minority.
