History & Background
Spanning roughly 100 square km in Sunamganj district near the Indian border, Tanguar Haor is a Ramsar-designated wetland of international importance, transforming dramatically between seasons: a lush green grassland in the dry winter months and a vast interconnected lake during the monsoon. It supports over 200 species of resident and migratory birds, along with fish species that sustain surrounding fishing communities, and has been managed under community-based conservation programs since the early 2000s aimed at balancing local livelihoods with wetland protection.
