History & Background
Built in the late 20th century through the philanthropy of a local religious teacher and his followers, Guthia Mosque grew over subsequent renovations into an elaborate multi-domed complex covered in colorful mosaic and glasswork, in a decorative style distinct from the older terracotta or plain-brick mosques found elsewhere in Bangladesh. It functions as both an active neighborhood mosque and a madrasa complex, and its vividly patterned domes and minarets have made it a popular stop for visitors touring the greater Barishal area.
