History & Background
Sajek is a union in the Rangamati Hill District bordering Mizoram, India, and home to Lushai and Tripura indigenous communities who have lived in these hills for generations, farming through traditional jhum (slash-and-burn) cultivation. It remained largely unknown to outside visitors until the mid-2000s, after security conditions in the Chittagong Hill Tracts stabilized following the 1997 Peace Accord, when its dramatic cloud-covered ridgelines and cooler climate began attracting trekkers and photographers, quickly turning it into one of Bangladesh's most popular hill destinations.
