Pabna

Pabna is a major district of Rajshahi Division in west-central Bangladesh, known for agriculture, riverine trade, the Rooppur nuclear project, mental health institutions, and important sites along the Padma and Jamuna systems. It covers about 2,376.13 km² and had a population of 2,909,624 in the 2022 census. Pabna town is the district headquarters and a regional education, healthcare, and administrative center.

Pabna's history reaches back to ancient Bengal and later developed under Sultanate, Mughal, and colonial rule. The district became especially significant in the 19th century through indigo cultivation, agrarian resistance, and the famous Pabna Peasant Uprisings. It was established as a district in 1832 and later emerged as an important political and cultural center in western Bengal.
