Naogaon

Naogaon is one of the largest districts of Rajshahi Division, known for vast agricultural plains, Buddhist archaeological heritage, and rich rural settlement across northwestern Bangladesh. It covers about 3,435.67 km² and had a population of 2,784,599 in the 2022 census. Naogaon town is the district headquarters and an important administrative, trade, and service center.

Naogaon's historical landscape is linked with ancient Varendra and some of the most important Buddhist archaeological remains in Bangladesh, including sites near Somapura and Jagaddala traditions in the wider region. The district developed through ancient, medieval, Sultanate, Mughal, and colonial phases and became a district in 1984. Its long historical identity is associated with agrarian settlement, archaeological landscapes, and regional religious-cultural exchange.
