Bogura

Bogura is one of the most important districts of Rajshahi Division and northern Bangladesh, known for ancient urban heritage, commerce, transport connectivity, and dense agricultural settlement. It covers about 2,898.68 km² and had a population of 3,734,297 in the 2022 census. Bogura town is the district headquarters and a major commercial, educational, and transport center for North Bengal.

Bogura's history is deeply tied to ancient Pundranagara and Mahasthangarh, one of the oldest archaeological urban sites in Bengal. The region passed through Mauryan, Gupta, Pala, Sena, Sultanate, Mughal, and colonial phases. Bogura was established as a district in 1821 and became a major administrative and trading center in northern Bengal. Its historical identity is shaped by archaeology, mosques, mounds, markets, and the memory of long-settled agrarian society.
