History & Background
Puthia Rajbari and Temple Complex is one of the richest heritage landscapes in Rajshahi District. The Puthia Raj family rose during the Mughal period and later became one of the prominent zamindar families of Bengal. The palace, built in the late nineteenth century, stands with a group of temples constructed by the Puthia rulers and queens over different periods. The complex includes the Rajbari, Pancha Ratna Govinda Temple, Bhubaneshwar Shiva Temple, Dol Mancha and several other temple structures around Shyam Sagar and Shiv Sagar water bodies. It is known for terracotta ornamentation, varied Bengal temple styles and the historic memory of the Puthia estate.
