History & Background

Keane Bridge was built in 1936 and named after Sir Michael Keane, the Governor of Assam. Over time it became known as the gateway to Sylhet city. The iron-and-steel bridge was damaged during the Liberation War and later repaired, and in recent years it has become known mainly as a pedestrian-friendly heritage bridge.
