About This River

Renamed Jamuna after the Brahmaputra enters Bangladesh, this river is famous for its shifting braided channels and vast sandbar islands (chars) that are farmed and resettled as the river migrates. The Bangabandhu Bridge (1998) and the newer Jamuna Railway Bridge connect the country's east and west across it.

Char tourism, river cruises near the Jamuna Bridge, and birdwatching on the sandbars draw visitors, especially around Sirajganj and Bogura.
